Recently Mahmoud Haji Group COO of CAE attended the 2012 GASCO Contractor HSE Seminar. The below is an article taken from GASCO’s internal magazine ‘GASCO image’ about the event.
In its pursuit to continually improve HSE performance, GASCO conducted another successful annual engagement program with all its contractors.
The approach taken this year was to involve Site Supervisors of contractors, as they are seen to be the crucial link between top management and the workforce. Recognizing that first link supervisors face daily challenges of managing safety at work and experience at first-hand issues with the workforce, GASCO Management chose to engage them directly through an open and frank dialogue and obtain their input in a series of workshops. Three workshops were conducted at Ruwais, Habshan and Asab sites.
The output from these workshops was discussed at the GASCO Contractor Management Seminar on 21st November in Abu Dhabi.
Over 250 participants attended the seminar including top management from GASCO and contractors. The theme of the seminar was ‘Indentifying Opportunities to Improve Welfare and HSE Performance’.
A vote was held to select the three best recommendations from the topics:
- Compliance with HSE rules
- Health and welfare at contractor camps
- Training and supervision
Three senior GASCO managers undertook to champion the recommendations and GASCO committed to reporting progress in 2013.
